CSL Behring
The challenge
When treating blood cancers, haematologists generally prioritise overall survival. However, depleted immunity due to treatment can result in secondary immune deficiencies (SID) and repeat infections, which can have an enormous impact on patient quality of life (sometimes more so than the cancer itself).
Patients themselves are often reluctant to share any quality of life issues they are facing, because they either think the issues are
normal and expected, or they may also prioritise survival outcomes over them.
CSL wanted to share these insights with haematologists and represent the patient voice of those patients who do experience reduced quality of life due to SID.
The solution
We started by talking to the patients themselves, gathering their stories and understanding what it was they wanted the haematologist to know. We brought to life these real patient experiences in an unexpected way, using beautiful animation.
This allowed haematologists to hear first-hand the impact of SID, encouraging them to consider overall quality of life in their treatment plan
Visuals shown are a mock up representations of the campaign, and not final artwork.
“Anxiety...ah, yeah...I did get a lot of anxiety from it…”
“Dread...you start feeling under the weather and you start thinking how long is it going to take…”
“…Just lifeless I think.”
“For a long time it made me scared…”
